Ko Paul McGregor toku ingoa!
My ancestors hark back to Scotland and England
I grew up under the mantle of Aoraki Mount Cook, swimming in the waters of the Waimakariri River.
Christchurch is my hometown but now I live in Nelson.
My name is Paul McGregor!
Paul McGregor is a trained lawyer who's done everything but practise law. He’s worked in government, managed and chaired community organisations and led a community engagement consulting firm.
Paul was the host of Beyond Consultation, one of the top 1% of podcasts worldwide in its day.
Now, he runs his own practice helping leaders, job seekers and consultants to do more work that matters.
When Paul's around, expect bucketloads of curious questions, a few stories, a laugh and a smile - especially when the conversation is a difficult one.
I'm a bit like a headtorch. Put me on and I'll gently shine a light on what's really going on.
My essence - what I'm like
My old business partner said it was like I could see a fourth dimension. I’m very curious and like to dig deeper. People say I’m authentic because I gently call things out that others might shy away from.
When you're with me, expect bucketloads of curious questions. A few stories. A laugh and a smile - even (or especially) when the conversation is a difficult one. And a quickly sketched model that attempts to pull it all together.
You can get to know me through the Beyond Consultation Podcast where there's over 70 episodes sharing the stories of people doing more than ticking the box of consultation.
Outside work, you'll find me mucking around in the garden at home or going on long e-bike rides (with two kids on the back and a dog in the front.)
My experience - what I've done
My career began in public policy with the Ministry of Justice before a life-changing role with Lifehack, a systems-level initiative for supporting the wellbeing of young New Zealanders. I then co-managed the Nelson branch of Literacy Aotearoa before diving back into the world of collaboration and engagement as a consultant with Business Lab.
At Business Lab, our mission was to change how organisations work with the people they serve. In my time there, I created the Engagement Canvas (an engagement planning tool used by dozens of government organisations), wrote Virtually Productive (your guide to facilitating virtual meetings that create change outside the meeting room) and facilitated a few hundred important meetings and events.
